The Albion 6th Grade Pi Run, 9:30 AM. at Albion Elementary School, 20 School Street (off Main Street/Rt. 202 in Albion). Registration starts at 8:30 AM.  The entry fees are $10 for runners and walkers ($9 pre-registration).  Top overall female and male receive a pie in a pottery plate made by local artisan Nancy Meader. Pies to top female and male age group winners and to the youngest (under their own power), oldest, top 6th grader (from any town), top walker, and random finishers. 2nd Annual Ma'nakwane Memorial 5K Run/Walk,  Penobscot Nation, Community Building, Indian Island,ME @ 10:00AM (registration 8-9:45am).  Entry Fee:  $12.00 pre-registration until March 30th; $15.00 day of race  ***t-shirt included with pre-registration***.  T-shirts can be purchase for $10.00.  Proceeds to benefit:  Lindsey Almenas Scholarship Fund.  This educational scholarship was created to remember the beautiful life of my sister Lindsey Almenas and to create a better future for other students pursuing a post secondary education.  ***This year we will award $2000 in scholarships to eligible students from Old Town High School to signify Lindsey's graduating year, "the class of 2007"***

EARTH DAY 5K @ 11:00 a.m. at the University of Maine Fieldhouse.  The Earth Day 5K is in conjunction with the annual H.O.P.E. Festival. The course is a flat 5K mostly on the University bike path. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Fieldhouse. $5. Prizes awarded at random. This is a low-key, simple, cheap, non-high tech race. For information, call Judd Esty-Kendall at 866-4048.

15K Atlantic Salmon Spawning Run

The Atlantic Salmon Federation and its Maine Council affiliate are pleased to announce the inaugural Atlantic salmon 15 K race to honor the spring return of spawning salmon to the Penobscot water shed.
 
The event will start at the Veazie Salmon Club, proceed to Bangor, across to Brewer, pass the Penobscot Salmon Club and on to the finish line at the Eddington Salmon Club. The specific route will be supplied before the run and with entrance materials. Entry fee will be $100.00 and it is suggested that contestants collect donations of $10.00 from 10 different individuals. This will not only make entry easy but also emphasize the importance of this event to conservation minded individuals. Opportunity will also be offered to major corporations to be involved by reserving a logo spot of their organization on the T shirt which will be supplied to all runners. All monies derived from this event, less minimal expenses will be donated to the “Penobscot Conservation Trust,” in their endeavor to remove dams at Veazie, Great Works, to alter the flow in Howland, and to continue improving water quality throughout the Penobscot watershed.
 
Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, female and male runners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals. First place winners will also receive appropriate trophies. Awards will be presented at the Eddington Club at the conclusion of the race. Honorable starters for the run will be a national political figure and a world renowned distance runner. As needed, buses will be available to return participants to Veazie.
 
This inaugural run will be limited to 250 runners with an additional 50 places reserved for non shows. The starting line will have 10 runners and then 10 runners in each consecutive row. Placement in these positions will be determined by receipt of application and necessary required entry fee. To clarify, the first application received will be number 1. The second, number 2 and so on. Fees may be paid by check, money order or credit cards. We look forward to a great race!

Animal Orphanage 5K Pet Run/Walk, in Old Town, ME.  Registration begins at 9:00 am.  Race starts at 10:30 am.  Start and finish at the Old Town YMCA.  Contact Roberta Fowler at 827-2658.
