Womancare's 12th Annual Race To End Domestic Abuse in Guilford, ME.  Womancare will be hosting its annual Race To End Domestic Abuse which will include for the 5th year the challenging 12K race, which is part of the Sub5 Track Club Road Race Series.  This route is fast, flat and will follow the scenic trail along the Piscataquis River during peak foliage season and pass by historic sites, such as the Piscataquis River Covered Bridge.  It is wheel-measured and certified by the Sub 5 Track Club.  We'll offer electronic results, water stops and mile markers.  We are also offering a 5K race at the same time and place, which is at the Piscataquis Community Middle School in Guilford, Maine.  Registration begins at 8am and the races begin at 9am.  A $15 registration fee is required, however pledges are encouraged.  For a registration form, pledge sheet or more information please call Womancare at 207-564-8165.

LRHS Fun Run to Benefit Laker Runners

 
The Lake Region High School cross country team is sponsoring a 2-mile "Fun Run" on Columbus Day, Monday, October 13th at 10 am as a benefit for LRHS cross country and track & field.  The run is open to the public, and the community is invited to come and run a portion of the LRHS cross country course.  The Fun Run course begins on the track, loops down around the soccer field, comes back to the football practice field, loops down around the middle school field, then goes through the woods up to the field hockey field before finishing on the track.  It should be fun for adults and children.  The Fun Run will be part of the LRHS homecoming competition, with poitns awarded to the high school class with the most competitors.
 
Cross country athletes will be assisting at the event.  "We will have some of the team members posted around the course to help direct the runners and cheer people on," says head coach Dan Dors, "And we plan to have a couple of runners in the back running with any stranglers, just to make sure nobody gets lost and everybody has a good time."  Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in each of four categories:  adult, high school, middle school, and elementary.
 
Registration is $15 for adults and $6 for all students, with all profits going to LRHS cross country and track & field.  The first 50 to pre-register will receive a commerative T-shirt.  Registration forms are available at the LRHS athletic department office or in the newspaper.  Runners may also register at 9 am at the Art Kilborn Jr. Athletic Complex on race day.

Run for Lungs One-Miler, New Gloucester, ME.  10:00 am registration, 10:30 run, at the New Gloucester Fairgrounds on the former horse race track, 1/2 mile west of the Rt 100/202/4 & Rt. 231 intersections, fee $1.00, awards to first male and female and first New Gloucester resident male and female.  Proceeds to go to Lungs for George, a former highschool sub 6 miler born with cystic fibrosis, in need of a double lung transplant  bowhttp://www.newlungsforgeorge.org/george.php

Reiche International 5K, Portland, ME.

Please join us for a beautiful 5 kilometer run through Portland’s scenic West End neighborhood in support of Maine’s most ethnically diverse school, Reiche Elementary.   This will be a community event celebrating Reiche’s amazing international student body representing 32 nationalities!   In deference to the upcoming holiday, participants are invited to wear a costume (not mandatory).  Walkers are welcome.  More information and a printable entry form are on line at www.Reicheinternational.com.  The race starts and ends at Reiche Elementary.   The well-marked single loop course begins on Brackett St & continues through the streets of the West End including Chadwick, Neal, Pine & Spring Streets.  It includes one climb--behind the Western Prom Cemetery.  Otherwise it’s flat and fast.
