Boston Primer 15 Miler

"The wind was a-howlin'. It was horrible weather" race winner,
Robert Ashby, said of the 25 degree day which provided a wicked headwind
for the last six miles. This course already had a "reputation" for its
relentless hills which are considered a true test of fitness for Maine
runners who are Boston Marathon bound.
Master runner, George Towle, provided Ashby with the incentive
to "push it" when he looked back at nine miles and saw the 48 year old
still within striking distance. "I pushed it up a long hill and then kept
on pushing it to the end. I couldn't believe how good George was
running!" Ashby said. Towle is making the most of a winter spent in Kenya
as part of his work at the University of Southern Maine.
Judd Esty-Kendall was the first Boston Marathon bound finisher
with his 4th place overall, with other Boston bound finishers including
Newell Lewey, woman's winner, Katrina Bisheimer, Phil Pierce, Woman's
Master winner, Joan Merriam, Senior winner, Louisa Dunlap and Rene
Collins.
