PRESIDENTIAL 5 MILER, KENNEBUNKPORT, APRIL 6

DUNHAM BEATS BICKFORD CR IN PRESIDENTIAL RACE

Dave Dunham (24:46) lowered Stan Bickford's course record by
three seconds on a cold, raw, sometimes rainy, 50 degree day that seemed
perfect for staying in bed, which many preregistered runners did!. Six
runners, taking advantage of good running weather, went under the USAT&F
age group marks for national ranking. 282 runners finished the race.
Byrne Decker (25:13) ran a time that might have been good enough,
but for his friend Dunham's presence. Besides, Decker owed Dunham one
after Dunham paced him to win the Maine Marathon last fall. David
Weatherbie (26:30) won the race for third, ahead of 19 year old Paul
Johnson (26:58.) Tom Dann (26:58) won the Master's Division, took 5th
overall, and acheived a USAT&F qualifying mark for national ranking, as
did George Towle 46, 9th overall in 27:26.
Christine Snow-Reaser (28:51), with a full time nursing student
schedule, used her indoor track speed to put 48 seconds on Denise Harlow
(29:39), while 2:53: 48 Boston Marathon qualifier, Veronica Haskell
(30:18) showed more than enough speed for a sub 2:50 in Beantown.
Carol Hogan was the class of the Master Women, clocking a
national ranking qualifying 33:21, at age 46. 47 year old Jane Rau took
second in 34:37; 48 year old Carol Weeks (35:18) took 3rd and in perfect
age order, 49 year old Joan Lavin (36:33) took 4th. Faye Lowery (39:22)
won the Senior Women's race.

Also running under USAT&F ranking guidelines were Guy Berthiaume, 51, in
28:55, Lloyd Slocum 64, in 32:25, John Chandler 70, in 38:45, and Carlton
Mendell 75, in 42:56.
